Since an early age I have had mentors and teachers show me by example how important music education is to preserving culture. I have been teaching for five years, first teaching middle school students at music summer camps in New Orleans like the New Jazz School. After graduating from Loyola University I opened a guitar studio, teaching all ages and talent levels. I also taught guitar and piano lessons to students (5-50) at the New Orleans Music Academy. Teaching and performing are two of my musical passions which have been growing since my days as a child star dancer/pianist in the 1960's, up to today as a professional 'cellist/ethnomusicologist. In addition to performing on both instruments, I also composed award winning pieces, premiered works as a 'cellist and also was fortunate to have the late great Croatian composer Boris Papandopulo write a solo work for me, just before he passed. Instruments: Piano Voice Music
I began teaching voice in 1998, in Vienna, Austria. The following year, I was asked to teach at the Vocal Jazz Department of Gustav Mahler Conservatory where I taught for 5 years. During that time, my private teaching studio also grew, where I coached singers, songwriters and pianists. In 2004, I moved to Los Angeles, taught piano at a private music school, accompanied a Eurythmy class at The Waldorf School in Pasadena, and eventually built my own business as a piano teacher. Instruments: Piano Voice
I was born in Brazil and from a young age, like many others, had shown an interest for music and singing. I've since then lived in several countries where I've further developed and honed my skills in singing, music theory and piano, as well as having the ability to speak Portuguese, Spanish, Korean and German. After attending an International School in Germany, where I would often perform as part of the School Choir and taking part in musicals, and taking private lessons with classically trained and professional German-Australian Soprano Mary-Jane Martin, I then moved to England where I attended the Academy of Contemporary Music majoring in Music Business and in Vocals and later on moved here, to Los Angeles, where I attended the Musicians Institute majoring in Vocal Performance. Instruments: Piano Cello Keyboard
For beginners, I would first teach them the basic sitting and hand postures, basic note-reading, and basic music theories. After they know how to play piano in an appropriate posture, I would like them to start with Hanon piano exercises. I believe it is a great book to warm up the fingers and a great finger exercises for all levels of piano players. Other than those basic exercises, I would also like to introduce them to one to two simple pieces that are fun to play. Read More
