I have a 20+ years experience in teaching piano, and a classroom Music teacher as well. Music Theory is my forte and started to develop reading skills and teaching with the aid of technology. I started playing piano in our church when I was in 6th grade, that's when I realized that Everyone has a talent of something they can contribute to the world, It is also important to know that we are all given different talents to use at different times. I believe lessons should be fun and engaging. I believe the most improvement in a student comes from practice time, so my goal as a teacher is to show the student how to practice most effectively by applying what they learned in their lessons in their practice sessions. If it is all right with them, we can record the lesson so they can go back and watch. As a teacher, I believe it is important to be positive and supporting, giving constructive criticism guide the student to play better while also boosting the student's confidence. Read More

For beginning students in flute and piano, I use Trevor Wye flute books and Alfred piano books, respectively. These books cover fundamentals and hand technique and once that is learned and internalized, then I will introduce more solo or accompanied repertoire that they would eventually perform in a recital. For beginning composition students (which are taught remotely on Zoom), I will go over different "lectures" about fundamental music theory and integrate short composition assignments that go according to what was learned in the lesson. My goal is always to encourage students through their musical journey by honing in on their strengths while also addressing areas they can improve upon. At each lesson, I make very clear goals for each student to work on for their next meeting with me. I always like to supplement their lesson material with music that speaks to the student's interest, be that something more jazzy or from a pop artist. Read More

In addition to working with standard repertoire and method books, I devise my own exercises to help with breath control, tone production, rhythm, aural skills, and other topics. I dedicate particular time and attention to the areas where I believe each individual student can benefit the most (e.g., tone quality, counting, etc.). For young students, I like to incorporate music games and improvisation into my teaching, both of which help the student develop essential musical skills in a fun, relaxed way. Read More
