Instruments: Piano
Originally from central New Jersey, I attended and recently graduated Elizabethtown College, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Music. While at college, I studied piano with Debra Ronning, piano teaching/pedagogy with Cheryl Braun, and organ with Anthony Ciucci. I also gave two solo recitals, where I got the chance to perform an original composition, and was a member of various ensembles, performing not only piano, but also on clarinet, percussion, and singing. Instruments: Piano Drums Mallet Percussion Conga Djembe
I began teaching Drums at a local Music Store on Saturday mornings while still in College. Teaching helped propel my interest in Drums and Music as I continued my education at College. Most students studied with me for years at at time. I began picking up more and more students at the store until I had a full schedule 3 days a week. My love and dedication to music made teaching and explaining music to others, simple ....and fun. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet Keyboard
I began teaching in high school, where I taught lessons to the younger students as well as instructed my jazz band in improvisation lessons. I enjoyed problem solving with my students and figuring out the appropriate exercise or explanation to help them get over a particular hurdle. In college I taught at a music school, where I branched out from teaching saxophone to clarinet, flute, and piano as well. I also gained a lot of experience with very young students at this school. As far a voice lessons goes, in the beginning there will be many warm-ups before we move on to repertoire. As an instructor, I want to know what type of voice I am working with. It is very important to exercise your vocal chords and train them to be able sing properly. Also, we will be working a lot on posture; how to stand when singing, showing confidence and more! Instruments: Piano Organ Keyboard
My approach to teaching is, basically, that playing piano should be enjoyable and fun so I tailor the lessons to the type of music in which the student has interest. I do, however, have a basic structure that includes reading music, finger dexterity and songs at the student's playing level. If there is an interest in contemporary music I have an "easy to learn" approach to chords and accompaniments. I also give lessons in music composition. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola Fiddle Keyboard
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Suzuki level books, String Explorer and Fiddletime joggers to increase sightreading and listening skills. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Violin Cello Trumpet Saxophone Flute Clarinet Drums
I use a variety of methods for my teaching style. I usually have a few method books that I bring to a first lesson, and after meeting the student I will decide on the best one. Once the student has progressed and shows some motivation to be slightly challenged, I'll introduce "popular" music so that the student feels a sense of accomplishment! Music is associated with movies, radio, etc., so to be able to play something recognizable is exciting for the student and the teacher. Read More
