My preferred piano method is Piano Adventures and I recommend using the Lesson, Theory, and Sight Reading books at each level. For guitar and voice I typically do not follow any specific method unless the student has a preference. For more advance piano students I typically will begin using Suzuki or move them to Burgmller Etudes and Schumann's Opus 68 - Album for the Young. My teaching experience began in 1979 when I assisted my master instructor with group lessons. Area residents quickly hired me to teach their children soon after. For the past 34 years, I have taught private lessons in my home studio part-time. It was not until the past 6 years that it became a full-time position for me. My teaching experience really started With the DC Youth Orchestra Program as a cellist. Assisting the cello teaches with summer sessions. I also assisted at NC A T State University Orchestra. I mentored student teachers with string ensemble. Currently, I am Assistant to the Minister of Music at The Greater First Baptist Church of Washington DC. My teaching style revolves around the interest of the student combined with my overall experience with one ultimate goal being that the student will develop the tools to teach themselves along the way. I like to use relevant recordings to play along with as well as simply recording the student and playing it back during the lesson. I began teaching while in college. I taught band at an Elementary school for 5 Years. I also went on to become an adjunct professor at The University of the District of Columbia teaching "Jazz Trumpet" and "Beginning Jazz Piano". What I love about teaching is the moment when a student "gets it".
