My greatest quality as a teacher is being flexible and listening to my students' needs. Not everyone learns the same way and to try to teach everyone the same way, you won't always get the results you want. That's why during my first lesson with each student, I try to figure out what the student wants to learn and how they learn best so we can come up with a plan that would work best for them, knowing that there's always room to amend that plan. I strive to cultivate in all my students a lasting love for the art of music in whatever form it manifests in them. Finding what about the instrument is inspiring to the student is paramount to keeping both of us engaged in the process. As a teacher I challenge my students to explore the joy of making music with their instrument and to chase that which cultivates joy in their playing. Read More

I always emphasize musicality in my teaching, because if as performers, we are focusing on being expressive, we'll convey our love of music! If a student can think about what the music is expressing, they will be more motivated to keep practicing. I focus on the fundamentals such as tone, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, basic music theory and history. I always give specific positive feedback, along with a tip for improvement. Finally, I always go over how, how much, and what to practice in lessons, so the student can learn what to listen for and focus on outside of the lesson, and keep improving during the week. Read More

My teaching style is all about steady, consistent progress. It is very valuable to dedicate even the smallest amount of time each day to practice. I like to provide my students a range of exercises to reinforce material that's already been learned, familiarize themselves with new concepts, and then a little bit extra if they feel inspired to branch out. I aim, also, to share my enthusiasm about music with my students. Read More

There are few things in life that bring me more joy than seeing students develop a passion for expressing themselves through music! My experience has shown me that every student is different, and I feel it is my job as a teacher to introduce students to resources and materials that will serve both their interests and needs. It's been shown that our brains have the ability to change throughout our entire lives, andthink of students' milestones in musicianship as developments both on their instruments and in their minds.
