Instruments: Piano

My teaching experience dates back to my teenager years, as I began teaching private lessons 30 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio. My students have been prizewinners in many competitions, they have been distinctively passed many piano examinations with high marks. For the last 10 years, I started to focus on teaching music theory, from intermediate level to AP Music Theory, I especially enjoy teaching high schoolers who wish to learn music theory seriously. My teaching style is very transparent; I want my students to recognize what we are working towards and how close they realistically are to that goal. This way, the student and I are working together to achieve a greater understanding of their instrument! I love feeling like I'm helping a student gain an understanding of a topic, rather than simply dictating a list of rules to know. I myself have an appreciation for many different styles of music, so I do my best to help students understand stylistically what is appropriate, necessary, and customary about the repertoire they are performing. I've been teaching piano to students of all ages as my sole profession since 2002.  I usually have between 20 and 25 students at a time.  I have also earned certification through the Music Teachers National Association through a combination of testing and proofs of competency.  I keep up to date professionally  through my memberships in Lancaster Music Teachers Association and the Main Line Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers and in my role as the Center Coordinator for the Music Development Program.  Most of all though, I've learned from my students, who are always the best teachers.  The part I love best about my job is that I get to cater the curriculum to each student individually.  Each student can have their own "best assignment". I have been a highly effective piano instructor for over forty years. My students have also won many competitions and scholarships. The most important element in my teaching, however, is instilling a knowledge and love of music. Read More
