I have been teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, and piano to all ages in many different parst of the country including Utah, New England, New Jersey, and New York. I have been teaching kids from 5 to adults age 72 in New Jersey for 20 years, and just love it. I try to impart the joy of performing I learned in concert to the hearts and hands of my students. I also try to inspire them to bring their own songs, personality and ideas to the table, as their is no greater motivator to practice and perform. I have russian method way to teach. I was taught like this when I was young. Basics of music theory, names, titles, vocabulary. Then i teach first technical excersises. Once we master it we begin simple pieces to apply technique. Then we progress to more complex playing. And pick harder pieces to play. After 25 years of study I still practice my excersices daily. Most important to my teaching is that each student to listens to a lot of music, and learns to play the music that they love as soon as possible. I work with a variety of method books/videos depending on skill level and stylistic interest, and teach time-tested regimens for building raw ability on the instrument. I have 5 years of ensemble teaching, and 7 years of private instruction. I've developed a method of instruction that covers all bases, and spans several styles that focuses on consistent and fun practice. Practice is something to be enjoyed rather than a chore, and every step and improvement is exciting. For upright bass, I love to work on bow pressure and intonation and jazz idioms.
