Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

As we advance into soloing, we'll add more information around fretboard knowledge and visualization techniques. I will always explain "why" we are learning something, whether it's a particular technique or topic and "how" we go about accomplishing it. For Intermediate level students, I'll take music theory a little deeper and we'll gain an understanding of different styles and progressions such as the 12-bar (Blues), 1-4-5 (Rock/Pop) and 2-5-1 (Jazz) progressions in popular music along with soloing techniques. We focus on technique first, but my students get to choose the style of music they would like to learn! Whether that be musical theatre, pop, RB, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Rock, Classical/Opera, students are cultivated to bring out the best in their voices. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as auditioning, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with three separate methods for each instrument that are all offered on SmartMusic. A student may opt to use the books. One method works with tone, another deals with technique and the third one works rhythms. I then slowly integrate solo and ensemble repertoire which leads to your first performance. All along the way, I present to you new, fun practice techniques which propel you forward! Read More

For beginners or people that are brand new to the guitar we typically break the lesson into halves. The first half is typically practicing pentatonic scales and basic finger exercises and maybe some rhythm drills before moving onto simplified versions of famous classic songs. The expectation is to play the scale at a certain tempo with a metronome, and be able to play along with the recording of whatever song we happen to be focusing on. Read More
