For beginning students, I typically start with the basic essentials needed to get a feel for the instrument, and to read music. Then once they have that accomplished, we move straight on to learning their favorite songs as this is when the most progress can be gained. Once the student has grasped these fundamentals, We can move on to the more creative side of things by moving into Theory and Songwriting. Read More

Instruments: Piano
I began teaching private piano lessons when I was a junior in college. I taught all ages including children, teenagers, and adults. I encourage consistent and regular practicing with my students because that is how one succeeds at playing an instrument. I teach students based on their own individual development and pace, but I do push them so that they can improve and become better musicians. I always schedule a recital at the end of the semester and encourage students to perform in festivals and competitions so that they have opportunities to perform. Read More
Instruments: Piano
For beginning students, I like to start with some starting note learning drills on paper or going through some beginner books. I am a firm believer in that the more a student practices reading music, the easier it will come. I realize that some students learn music better by ear, and I will work to develop that skill alongside the essentials of reading the music on paper. As they progress, I hope to introduce different kinds of solo music in order to teach different skills and techniques that are involved, while still keeping the music fun and accomplishing the goals that the student wants to accomplish. Instruments: Piano
One of the best things in the world is to see a student struggle with the material for a little while on to discover that they can actually play what I am asking them to play. To see the student start seeing their talent, to see how far they have come and their love for music. It is one of the best feelings to see this change. By seeing what drives the student and through encouragement, I try to show each and every student that anything in music is possible. Read More
Instruments: Piano Keyboard
For younger students who are children, I usually start with Faber Piano Adventures. Once the student has worked in fundamentals and get a better understanding of the instrument, I will begin introducing solo repertoire appropriate for his or her level. I also like to working on scales and sight reading with my students, I spend some time at the beginning of the lesson helping them get a solid grasp on these two elements. Read More
Instruments: Bass Guitar Double Bass
My approach to teaching music is essentially a synthesis of my formal music education and a distillation of what I have learned from my experiences gigging. While a fluency with music notation is a great benefit and a necessity for some styles, a bassist will not work without the ability to make the music feel good. This feel can only be achieved through developing one's sensitivities to pitch and time. Read More
