I have played and taught music professionally for over 20 years. I have played a remarkably diverse range of gigs ranging from symphony orchestras to jazz to top 40 to folk music. My focus as a musician is the American popular song fromits origin at the turn of the 20th century to the most contemporary pop hit. I have arranged many popular songs for various groups and have a strong passion for music notation. Read More

I feel that it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals and assignments for my students at each lesson. This measurable progression of accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Of course finding out the students problem areas is also paramount to helping them progress at the fastest rate possible. I also believe that while our relationship is professional, I do take a personal interest in each of my students as some of the best teachers I have ever had, took a personal interest in me. For beginning students, I use the first Essential Element book to introduce the first instrument and theory concepts. Once students have progressed past this book, I use the Tune a Day series along with the accompanying scale book. This book introduces students to solo and duet pieces worthy of a recital performance. Once they have reached the third book and are progressing through etudes, students begin working on individual solo repertoire pieces. Read More

I think that is very important that the students enjoy playing their instrument. To achieve that, it is important that each student progresses at their own pace. Using their strengths and helping them get better at their weaknesses is one of my main goals as a teacher. I try to find what inspires them to keep the lessons interesting and fun. I always try to help them grow by challenging them but by also setting realistic goals. Read More

For beginning students, I like to start with some starting note learning drills on paper or going through some beginner books. I am a firm believer in that the more a student practices reading music, the easier it will come. I realize that some students learn music better by ear, and I will work to develop that skill alongside the essentials of reading the music on paper. As they progress, I hope to introduce different kinds of solo music in order to teach different skills and techniques that are involved, while still keeping the music fun and accomplishing the goals that the student wants to accomplish. I listen to students play in order to assess their level. I then formulate a strategy for improvement. I log all lessons into a database so that students can reflect backand gauge progress. This approach ensures that both student and instructor are accountable with the tasks assigned. Read More

I have been working out of my record studio since 2013 but I have been recording since 2004. I have also served as the assistant band director at midfield high. Giving rudimentary lessons to the drummers and working on the theory and range with the upper brass was one of the many jobs that I was assigned to as assistant director. I have worked with middle school high school colleges and clients who just wanted to record or get better. Read More
