I was involved in a string project at Sacramento State University, where I had the opportunity to learn effective pedagogical methods in academic and performance spheres, and incorporate them in my practices working with teenage musicians. I've been playing flute for many many decades. I keep it fresh by continuing to learn more about music. It's an endless well of possibilities. I currently play with a jazz quartet. I've played flute since i was 9 years old and currently favor the alto flute, with its rich, lower tone. I play and teach both C flute (regular flute) and the alto flute. For a long time I did not want to teach. I thought that those who can't do, teach- as the saying goes. As a father of a young boy few things give me more joy than to see my son learn about music, and Drums/Percussion in particular. As a musician I taught many musicians music theory; from diatonic scales/circle of fifths to pitch clusters and counterpoint. My best students were my band mates in In An Airplane who learned octatonic scales, modes, freetime, atonality and poly rhythm during our goings on. Read More
