Instruments: Piano Violin Trumpet Trombone Euphonium French Horn Tuba Music
For beginning students on brass instruments, we will send time getting the student to be comfortable holding and playing the instrument with a good, air driven sound. Once the student is able to reliably play their first notes in a rhythmic fashion, we can begin working on introducing music notation into the equation. Books I suggest will generally be books more specialized for each individual instrument, rather than method books used in band classrooms. Read More
Instruments: Drums
My teaching experience is a little more limited. I haven’t taught for quite a few years and have decided to get back into it with the right student that matches with the experience and talent I bring to the table. I’m not a jazz player, but more of a rock drummer that plays to what the song requires. I taught some students many years back and eventually stopped teaching to focus on performance for the bands I was in and also on family. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
I like to give my students a steady diet of fundamentals, etudes, and solos. For the fundamentals of trumpet playing, I generally use the standard methods and etudes, such as Arban, Clarke, Schlossberg, and so on. There are many great etude books out there--some that I like to use are Bordogni, Hering, Brandt, and Vizzutti. As for solo repertoire, it depends on the interests and goals of the student. The standard classical repertoire is always good (Haydn, Hummel, Arutunian), but if a student is more interested in jazz or popular music, then I would focus on that. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet
Music is my passion. I believe that music is able to connect us in ways that words and actions simply cannot. I have been playing music in some form for over 20 years. I play trumpet and piano. In college, I was a lead trumpet player for the UNL Cornhusker Marching Band. My experience in music has taught me that there is more to playing an instrument than simply following a sheet of music and playing notes. Read More
Instruments: Piano Keyboard
I am from Malaysia and I speak in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Malay and so on. I started learning piano since I was 4 years-old. Piano has always been the instrument that I appreciate and passionate about the most. Despite it saddened me knowing that I would not be having my piano with me after moving to the states, I felt happy enough to be able to buy a keyboard to maintain my knowledge and skills. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
I am someone who believes that nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! That's why it is so important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
