"I believe that good singing should involve free, released, and healthy vocal production. I always meet my students where they are at in their musical journey. My favorite part about singing is that the learning is NEVER over. This helps new learners feel they aren't alone and helps professionals continue to delve deeper into their technique and artistry. Whatever your goals may be, I am here to help you achieve them. Read More

I approach each student in their own unique way based on their own goals and experiences. As a trained jazz musician, I like improvising and composing exercises for students on the spot and this is a skill I like to teach my students as well. It is important to me that students learn to be their own teacher so that they can improve at their craft continually for years to come. Read More

I have been lucky enough to have been studying music since I was very little, and so it's now my drive and motivation to share all the lessons, insights, and wonders I've learned from studying a wide variety of instruments and types of music. I'm in my final year of a Music Education degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Music Technology minor. I've been trained as a singer (both as an adult Baritone as well as a soloist Boy Soprano) and as a Saxophonist (all varieties) formally, and a Drum Corps International educated brass player. My philosophy is creating a solid musical foundation for students to deepen their understanding of singing and playing the piano. I always try my best to convey the basic musical knowledge to students, helping students develop their ability to recognize, read, listen, response, notate, understand rhythmic patterns and experiences in different musical cultures. Some of the main areas which students would have an opportunity to learn in general music class are Rhythm, Pitch, Texture/Harmony, and Form. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essentials Element Piano Theory. I like to separate practical and theory in different sessions so that they are familiar and comfortable with reading the notes while playing. I would also start with some fun and interesting melodies to get the kids engaged. When it comes to learning theories, I would use fun and creative symbols that associates symbols in music to get the student to remember them better. Read More

Before entering graduate school, I served as a band director in Illinois public schools for two years. During that time, I taught a 4th grade recorder class, 5th grade band, 6th grade band, 7th/8th grade band, and high school band. During graduate school I was the instructor of horn for the Western Illinois University Summer Music Institute, and I have taught private horn lessons to a variety of undergraduate music students as a part of my graduate teaching assistantship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I do my best to meet a student where they are, find out their interests and what practice routine their schedules allow for, and then go from there to create a custom plan for them. Regardless of their level and goals, however, students are always reminded that scales and practice are some of the best tools for success. A strong emphasis is placed on honing listening skills, as well, as this benefits students in both their ensemble and solo playing. Read More
