My philosophy is creating a solid musical foundation for students to deepen their understanding of singing and playing the piano. I always try my best to convey the basic musical knowledge to students, helping students develop their ability to recognize, read, listen, response, notate, understand rhythmic patterns and experiences in different musical cultures. Some of the main areas which students would have an opportunity to learn in general music class are Rhythm, Pitch, Texture/Harmony, and Form. Read More

I will always do my best to meet each lesson with enthusiasm, understanding, and good humor. As I previously noted, I believe that it is very important to take into account who a student is as an individual when structuring a lesson - but, regardless of age or level, I strive to make sure that lessons are a pleasure rather than a chore for the student and that they walk away from a lesson feeling like they have the tools they need to succeed. I approach each student in their own unique way based on their own goals and experiences. As a trained jazz musician, I like improvising and composing exercises for students on the spot and this is a skill I like to teach my students as well. It is important to me that students learn to be their own teacher so that they can improve at their craft continually for years to come. Read More

I have been lucky enough to have been studying music since I was very little, and so it's now my drive and motivation to share all the lessons, insights, and wonders I've learned from studying a wide variety of instruments and types of music. I'm in my final year of a Music Education degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Music Technology minor. I've been trained as a singer (both as an adult Baritone as well as a soloist Boy Soprano) and as a Saxophonist (all varieties) formally, and a Drum Corps International educated brass player. For beginning students I really get to know where the student is at in their learning experience. I try to individualize the learning experience as much as possible, learning about the student's background his or her interests in music. Also, I would track the student's progress carefully taking notes about lessons to better guide them in their musical journey. Above all striving to foster a great curiosity to learn! Learning music is so rewarding. Read More
Instruments: Flute
For beginning students I like to start with the Standard of Excellence book 1. Getting through that book we would advance to Rubanks Advanced Method Vol. 1 book. Perfecting the sound and tone is key to making a piece of music sound good followed by inputting expression and giving it color to a piece making it have more characteristic than just a piece of music. I try to keep it fun and exciting to keep the interest in learn stay captivated no matter their ability level. Read More
Instruments: Piano Keyboard
I would always follow each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. For children, I would also offer a reward such as candy to boost their excitement and passion for learning piano. When it comes to piano theory, I would reward them with a sticker on their homework page that is completed on time. Read More
