Although most of my playing experience has been with rock bands, big bands and weddings, I have a B.A. in classical performance/music education from William Paterson University. Most of my private study has been with Dave Larson of the New Jersey Symphony and Dave Rogers, a William Paterson jazz adjunct. As far as drumming goes, I believe in the same tenets that were taught to me; start with the basics and core and work your way up. For drums that means rudiments, stick technique and snare basics (books like "Stick Control" -George Stone). But lessons are not a slow grind that maybe one day build up to a full drum set. I was taught (and teach) in a way which mainly focuses first on these essentials (reading, technique etc.), but also incorporates the rest of the drum-set and playing along with other instruments and music. A voice lesson to me to should be easygoing and open, while having a task to accomplish. I encourage my students to enter my studio with an open mind and feel free to explore artistically. We set goals together and progress vocally with each song. I have an extensive library of music as well which my students are free to use to find new material. Teaching is my passion and calling, i can't think of doing anything else! In 2013 I graduated from Fairfield University with a triple major in English, Gender Studies, and Violin Performance. While studying at University I started my band with my sister, Verdigrls. We have gone on to put out an EP, play all over the NY metropolitan area as well as have our music featured in movies and television. I began teaching voice in college both privately and in group settings. In addition, I directed and taught music for two theater productions. I enjoy helping each student reach their unique goals as an individual. I am trained as an opera singer and I specialize in classical/operatic and musical theater repertoire. Additionally, I am trained in music theory, ear training, Eurhythmics, acting, Alexander technique, vocal pedagogy, French, Italian, German, and Greek so I can offer insight on any of these topics. It's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Sometime I would bring my soprano or tenor saxophone with me and create music with a student by trying to show him how music works. Read More
