Instruments: Piano
It feels good and rewarding upon seeing my students improvement and more love for music. I aways see to it that it is fun and effective. Finger training is one of the most important too therefore we won't miss that in every lesson. Read More
Instruments: Voice Trumpet
Since I have so many ages and levels of students, I customize lessons to fit each student. Through feedback from the student (and sometimes with the help of parents) we figure out together what the students musical goal is. These evolve over time of course, but focusing on playing a certain song, learning scales, composing original music, gaining performing confidence (among other goals) are what I base lesson plans off of. Instruments: Trumpet Trombone
In my lessons, I aim to not only cover the skills in playing the instrument, but also basic music theory. I also incorporate reflective questions for students to get them thinking about the music in new ways (e.g., structurally, historically, philosophically, etc.). My aim is that students are able to do a lot of playing in lessons and to be able to ask questions (especially why some aspect of music works the way it does!). Read More
Instruments: Drums Orchestral Percussion Conga Latin Percussion Djembe
I began teaching private drum set lessons during my first year as an Eastern Illinois University student. I taught lessons for just about three years while in college. At one point, I had about 14 students to teach and fit into my busy schedule. I've learned a lot from that experience and now know how to manage time efficiently with a heavy teaching load. Teaching is a very rewarding experience especially when I can see the progress in my student's performance. Read More
Instruments: Violin Mandolin Electric Violin Fiddle Music
The student can only progress and accomplish as far as they are willing to go. Keeping that in mind, realistic but exciting goals are made and worked on through each lesson and individual practice time. There are necessities that need to be set as goals, but I push my students to set their own goals by their desires and inspirations with music. I use these aspects to tailor each individual students lesson plans. Read More
Instruments: Piano Synthesizer
I started teaching piano while in college. The spectrum of my students was varied from their ages to their experience. I found that I could make a greater impact on the progress of my students not only by incorporating organized lesson plans, but also by creating a fun and nurturing environment. My success in motivating and teaching my students was based on making learning fun. I never forget about the importance of music theory, but I also understand each student is unique. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium
I have been teaching part-time for the last nine years. My passion for teaching comes from the amazing tutelage that I received as a young musician. The mentors that I was lucky enough to have taught me that music lessons are not only for acquiring the skills to learn an instrument. Music teaches discipline, work ethic, focus, problem solving, compassion, history, you name it. I have the skills and know how to teach an instrument and music, but I believe in the philosophy that music can teach us so much more as well. Read More
