I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. For beginners of any age, I begin by discussing goals, milestones, and how we will achieve them. I do use method books, but only recommend those that will be useful in and out of lessons. I keep lessons fun and engaging, and always demonstrate before expecting the student to do the same. Fundamentals as building blocks are always needed, but I never keep a learning plan the same from student to student- goals (that can always be changed) are what I use to guide a student to be confident for any performance. My method changes depending on the person. Everyone will begin with learning their basic major scales and then we'll proceed to minor and diminish. Arpeggios will also be included in scale warm up to help with muscle memory. Depending on the level, I will then pick an etude book to further their technique. This will help them with muscle memory, speed, and even in theory. Etudes are a great way to practice sight reading skills and expression. Read More

A lot of teachers that I have dealt with were very rude, and terrible at teaching. My approach is more so trying to build a stable foundation and give the necessary tools to become a great musician! I not only teach you how to play the drums and how to hold the sticks etc, but I also teach how to get gigs, how to get people to notice you, what it means to have your own rider, how to promote your own brand etc. Read More
