I then move on to basic note recognition on paper. This allows them to be able to visually identify when notes are moving up and down and so on. Once they become more comfortable with this method, I move onto memorizing and learning new repertoire. For more advanced students, I really try to hone in on these things while also focusing deeper on their technique. I try to really stay within the student's interests no matter what level, while also giving them things outside of their box to challenge them and help them grow. Read More

I started teaching part time to other songwriters because I was being asked to....my exp from playing on the road led me Down this path....I would learn new ways of phrasing through different tunings I would use and other musicians would inquire about the way I was playing a certain thing and suggest that I teach the method...I wanted to teach guitar in a way that would inspire students and not make practicing such a Heavy weight..I love for young students to be able to ‘accompany’ themselves when performing their art Read More

Although my methods vary a bit depending on the instrument, the general plan is the same. For beginner students of instruments I focus first on fundamentals, such as finger placement, note names, what makes up chords so forth (again with a high emphasis on practice). I will gladly print out hard copies of chord sheets, note names, songs with chord markers if desired, or can display these digitally! For beginner students of voice, I start by teaching proper breathing, different parts of the voice, warm ups, and assessing the students vocal range. Read More

I'm a big believer in personal goals and achievements. I like to ask my students what they hope to accomplish from their lessons, and tailor my lesson plan to meet their goals. My biggest concern is keeping the instrument fun for the student, and not letting it feel like a chore. I feel that a student is most likely to excel when they experience joy from their instrument, so to help keep the instrument fresh, I like to provide exercises that are challenging and rewarding, in addition to the regular curriculum. I am a working private brass instructor in the middle Tennessee area. I am currently studying Music Education at Lipscomb University and previously taught lessons at Middle Tennessee Christian School. I am currently the intern of the Nashville Trombone Academy where my responsibilities include rehearsal coordination, demonstration, content creation, and management of our online presence. As far as performance experience, I have done a little bit of everything. I have performed in music videos, recording sessions, classical concerts, chamber ensembles, marching band, and even in the horn section of a rock band. Read More

Playing with other musicians and performing is my favorite thing to do in the whole world and I have been doing it professionally since 2012. I graduated Magnum Cum Laude from Slippery Rock University in 2018 and then was hired by Princess Cruises. I traveled the world performing every night for a year until 2019 pandemic and just recently moved to Nashville, TN. In addition to collegiate education, I have extensively studied Brazilian percussion, Irish Bodhran, and Cuban percussion by taking private lessons with masters in each field. Read More

For all students (beginners and students with prior experience) I begin with teaching scales and arpeggios. Scales and arpeggios are the foundation of keyboard technique, and are found in all piano repertoire the student will encounter. I generally use the Macfarren Scale and Arpeggio Manual for older children/adults (those who read music) or the Scales, Chords, Arpeggios, and Cadences: First Book (Alfred) for children. If my student cannot read music I teach them scales and arpeggios without music, while teaching them how to read music from a method book. Read More
