For beginning students I use the Bastien System. For Adults, I use The Alfred Adult beginner for Piano Lessons. I try to adapt the method to the skill of the student, which incorporates my own system, based on years of teaching. I teach according to the student;s skill, and at their own pace. I studied with my Dad who played for Duke Ellington. I went to city college in NY where I learned much about jazz history. I've played with the Ellington Band and learned much about music. I am very passionate about drums and started teaching about 4years ago and I have helped many students get to where they want to get on their instrument. For beginning students who are children, I start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements (or the Hal Leonard Guitar Method for guitar students) to build a strong foundation in reading music, proper technique, tone production, and fundamental skills. Once students have a solid grasp of the basics, I introduce age-appropriate solo repertoire to develop confidence and prepare them for their first recital performance.
