My lessons include a number of activities including piano instruction, ear training, theory, technique, and flash cards. They are all great learning tools for a well-rounded music education. I begin teaching sight reading almost from the first lesson. It is important for me as a teacher to see students make correlations between what they hear and see. Note memorization is also essential, but rather than simply using the standard acronyms for staff reading or focus on naming notes individually, I teach students early on to recognize the overall shape of the music they read Read More

My approach to each student is individual and dependent on the experience of the student. For beginning students I focus almost exclusively on the fundamentals such as right and left hand independence, finger positioning, posture, and so on. Then I'll try introducing more complexity in increments. For adults, my method is the same as with children unless the adult in mind has demonstrated greater expertise on the instrument. If the adult is more advanced I'll introduce more difficult piano repertoire to challenge the student. Read More

In teaching an instrument, it is important that the student shows interest in playing an instrument, this way, when learning, a student can develop a passion for music. I have several methods, but mostly I teach to sing based on solfeage and songs, either italian, german, latin, spanish, and french. Solfeage helps the student to understand better sheet music and also helps understand the real emotion of the piece, among other things involved in a piece. For guitar I use Hal Leonard guitar method. I think that it is important to learn music and how to read it with your instrument. Read More

I studied piano and composition at the California State University, Sacramento, where I had the opportunity to study with world class musicians and be part of cutting edge orchestras and choirs; during my college years I went on several tours with a choir, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall, N.Y I currently perform as pianist and accompanist with Opera singers from the area, and also compose upon comissions.
