For beginners of any age, I begin by discussing goals, milestones, and how we will achieve them. I do use method books, but only recommend those that will be useful in and out of lessons. I keep lessons fun and engaging, and always demonstrate before expecting the student to do the same. Fundamentals as building blocks are always needed, but I never keep a learning plan the same from student to student- goals (that can always be changed) are what I use to guide a student to be confident for any performance. I have also attended Summer Strings at NYU, Meadowmount School of Music, and the Castleman Quartet Program, during the summers, where I was coached by notable individuals such as Kikuei Ikeda from the Tokyo String Quartet and John Kochanowski (a protegé of Robert Mann, a member of the Juilliard String Quartet).
