I started teaching at the prep department of the conservatory in 1992, and have been teaching ever since. I teach all levels - from beginners to intermediate to advanced students at the university level. Regular practicing is essential in retaining progress. If they are interested in composing their own music, I definitely will help with that as well! Read More

So much can be learned from breaking a song down and looking at everything that makes it a song. At this point, I can cater lessons to meet the needs of the student. If a student wants to learn more about songwriting, using song analysis, we can identify key concepts that can be used in songwriter development. In addition to the fundamentals of music and theory, I will guide the student through the mental and emotional aspects of music as well as building listening skills so that they student can identify various musical elements (such as scale degrees) by ear. Instruments: Drums
I started drumming on my dad's snare drum when I was about 5. I think my folks realized I was serious, so they bought a little Woolworth's "kiddie" kit and set up drum lessons when I was about 7 and learned to read and write jazz and rock music with my instructor until I was 16. I was in junior high orchestra and jazz ensemble and then in multiple rock bands through my 20's. Read More

I will have a Doctor of Arts degree in Piano Performance from the University of Northern Colorado in 2017. I am originally from Mississippi and studied engineering before pursuing music as a career. In 2009 I fulfilled my dream of visiting Europe by spending the summer in Salzburg, Austria and accompanied singers there as well. I enjoy living in Colorado and like to bike and play disc golf when the time allows. Read More

As I experienced different teachers, I learned that I do my best when I enjoy my lesson. To make this happen, it's the teacher's job to make the lesson more fun and comfortable for students. Since I was not always the best student for my teachers (I know, I know... I used to hate doing practices on pieces I didn't like!), I know how students think and am more than willing to understand their perspective. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Voice
I believe in Keeping it Fun! We get to play. Playing is a big part of the creative process, in that it involves experimenting and finding new ideas, thoughts, and processes that work best for each individual and that will lead to the perfect practice and the excitement of performance. When a student is ready, I will encourage them to do some suggested performing opportunities. Nothing is more thrilling to me and sometimes emotional, than to see one of my students progress to the point of loving music as much as I do, and to go on and spread the good to all those who will listen.
