For beginning students, I like to start with some starting note learning drills on paper or going through some beginner books. I am a firm believer in that the more a student practices reading music, the easier it will come. I realize that some students learn music better by ear, and I will work to develop that skill alongside the essentials of reading the music on paper. As they progress, I hope to introduce different kinds of solo music in order to teach different skills and techniques that are involved, while still keeping the music fun and accomplishing the goals that the student wants to accomplish. I have been working out of my record studio since 2013 but I have been recording since 2004. I have also served as the assistant band director at midfield high. Giving rudimentary lessons to the drummers and working on the theory and range with the upper brass was one of the many jobs that I was assigned to as assistant director. There is a child version and an older beginner version. For students who are not beginners, I find them solo pieces that are suitable for them that they enjoy so that their playing will progress. For beginner students who are children, I usually use Faber and faber method series or the Alfred method series. All curriculum is based on age, so that it will help students learn at their own pace and level. Once the student gets to a certain point, I start adding in fun pieces that the child suggest, or might like, to add to what he or she is already learning. For an adult, or students around the age of twelve and up, I will use the adult versions of Faber and faber or Alfred. Read More
