I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1999, I graduated from Stephen F. Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Music. Teaching Music to students has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play both for my school and church. I loves working with students and sharing my love of music. Read More

Throughout my time here, I solidified my teaching skills through my learning in person and online due to the pandemic. It was very hard to complete the degree but I ended up being the first student in my class to officially pass the oral thesis and attain the degree. Through my educational and teaching experiences, I have learned a variety of rehearsal techniques and assessments that benefit student learning, as well as completed advanced/supplementary classes in conducting, all secondary instruments, and technology in music. For beginning students, I always start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I've found this book to be the best at introducing the instrument and reading the music. I may or may not continue teaching out of the books (there's 3), but that depends on the student. By book 2 or 3 I usually begin introducing Suzuki, as there are many solo pieces for them. Suzuki is also great for teaching technique, which is essential to their skill-set. Read More

For a first timer i typically would relate with the student so as to connect with the basis for their interest in learning the musical instrument. Different students have different levels of perception or assimilation. This i establish before i even start the introductory class proper. Then i go through the fundamentals with the student, and observe their progress along the way. My instruction is flexible even though its structured in a way that prompts the student for further and regular improvements. Read More
Instruments: Voice Violin Viola Fiddle
My teaching style is very patient and encouraging and I can tailor my lesson plans to suit each individual student. Although building technique and comfort are extremely important, I find that the most essential aspect of learning an instrument is to study the music that you love, and I'm definitely open to adding a bit of musical theory to every lesson if the student is interested. While the student is learning the basics, I also add pieces in different genres to the student's repertoire so that he or she can develop early familiarity with a variety of styles. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I teach beginner to beginning intermediate drum students. The student will learn some of the most popular rock beats and rhythms and practical sticking techniques in the course. They will develop the "weak" hand and foot, limb independence coordination, and rudimentary skills. I teach a student to be completely independent on the kit by teaching them how to set-up and tune themselves. The first lesson will cover basic notation, as it applies to the drum kit, as well as a satisfactory play of a simple groove utilizing quarters and eighth notes. Read More
