Clarinet for Beginners by Avrahm Galper is the method book that has given students a foundation for whatever level they aspire to achieve. For beginning students in piano, I like to use either the Alfred Reed books or the Piano Adventure method books. It really depends on which the student understands the best! Both offer a variety of explanations on musical elements and topics, while also offering a variety of pieces to play. Once certain topics and musical elements are covered, I like to have the student pick a solo piece from several that I will have ready, which will also reflect the new musical elements that were covered. I began teaching when I was halfway through college. I began teaching private students as well as drumlines at local high schools. I focus heavily on technique and self-expression in order to make music making as engaging and as fun as possible! I also incorporate real life scenarios into my lessons in order to better prepare my students for what they might encounter in live musical situations.
