I was raised in Vero Beach Florida, and began playing guitar and piano at age 10. I graduated from the Schumann School for the Visual and Performing Arts, part of the Indian River Charter High School system. There afterward I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to attend McNally Smith College of Music where I graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance in 2015. I looked at their faces and nothing brought more joy to my heart that knowing that those kids found passion in music; the same way I did when I was younger. My style is open minded. I first try to know the students' goals and prepare a course of action accordingly. Then I try to know how much the students already knows and how much talent they have. That allows me to determine how fast I may go with them or how much I must drill and develop a particular skill before going on. Sometimes if I assess the student is jammed or stressed I deem it necessary to digress a bit into music history , philosophy and other fields related to music that work as a refreshing background and point of rebound to the skill part of the lesson while increase the scholarly knowledge of the student. For students who are young children, I typically start by addressing the importance of playing what you hear. So, I will teach them beginner classics, such as Twinkle Twinkle and Merry had a Littl eLamb, but I also teach them what thunder sounds like, or a siren, and etc. by drawing on everyday life obejects that create noise. I then move on to learn my student's interests to device a method of positive reinforcement if they complete their homework asssignments or answer questions correctly, usually in the past this has been candy.
