ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Course Work: Full Sail University

Awards:

Music Director at Christ Like-Ministries since 2013

Studied Full Sail University

Music Producer for Tony Ultra

Overview:

I'm a very passionate Instrumentalist and Music Producer. I'm motivated to teach students the language of music and help them develop their own relationship with it just as I am. I began playing drums at 2 years old and Piano at 13. I took band from 6th grade to 10th grade where I studied Percussion and was introduced to Mallet-based percussion. This introduction to reading notes and melodies eventually translated over to piano and started my journey with the melodic and harmonic side of music. In 2013, I attended Full Sail University where I studied even more music theory and production. I have played in many different churches in the South East Region where I developed my ear for Gospel, Jazz, Rock, Funk and even Classical music. This was all due to the broad nature of Gospel Music and how it encapsulated a lot of the other genres I was also interested in. In 2015 I had my first student approach me and ask for lessons. The student could already play a little already, but he was eager to play his favorite songs with his church band. I took up the offer and was able to have him play anything he heard after only about a dozen lessons. Since then I've been teaching other students privately and I'm excited to be working with MusikaLessons.com in order to help out even more motivated instrumentalists.

EXPERIENCE

I have quite a bit of experience with the Piano/Keyboard and Drums. I’ve been playing drums for as long as I can remember, and I’ve Played piano for over 13 years. I was a musician who knew how to read music a little but relied solely on my ear to play. It took me forever to learn to play a song. No matter how many years of Band I took or years of experience playing keys in church, I still found myself stumped on some songs. A crazy chord would be presented to me and I wouldn't even know where to begin to build it. I realized Very quickly that in order to unlock what it really means to “play by ear”, I had to gain an understanding of what I was playing. In my high school and early college days; I really focused in on Music theory courses and mastered the basic building blocks of scales, chords, harmony, melody etc.. being able to playing any song you hear is cool but when you can feel something and translate that into a sound, THATS when your music comes to life!

METHODS USED

My teaching style is Focused on teaching the student to speak the language of music fluently, as opposed to know a few words phrases. I’m here to help beginner students go from novice to songwriter. I’m here to help the student who only know a few songs in a few keys but wants to know and do more! I have a curriculum that I developed myself. Everything is based on classical/jazz theory, the “number system” and applied composition. Everything can be broken down from a beginner To an advanced level, includes children AND adults.

LESSON STYLE

My Teaching Style is tailored to the student, but essential the end goal is the prepare the student to be able to understand what they are playing and be fully express themselves through their playing. This is done through the study of music theory and the application of it. I DO NOT stress learning to read music, but if it is the desire of the student, I would be happy to teach that as well! In my personal opinion, learning to read before you speak a language is unusual in our everyday speech, and I also believe it to be true for music. Once the building blocks for our language are developed, then the student will learn what those sounds look like and will eventually be able to translate the music in their head to paper. Just as we can speak before learning to read and write.

I came to Jeremy wanting to learn scales and chords and grow my ear for songs so I could play my favorite tunes on piano. He was flexible enough to do the lessons at my home and would focus on whatever songs or chords I wanted. Whether your advanced looking for a teacher to fine tune things or a beginner looking to find your way around the keys or drums Jeremy is the best teacher I’ve found!

10/10 would recommend! I first met Jeremy from attending church services where he played. I’ve always wanted tone able to play the keys and Jeremy was KILLING IT! Long story short I approached him bc he played so well and he mentioned he would be happy to teach me! After a couple of lessons I was already able to understand how to play chords and felt like I was making great progress. Excited to keep working with Jeremy!

Jeremy is an Amazing instructor, I went to get a lesson from on music theory for piano, I’m more of a producer than a piano player, but I asked Jeremy for help sectioning songs and learning new scales and chords. I left with more knowledge than I could of imagined! He was so patient and friendly, I didn’t feel rushed or overwhelmed, he broke down the notes and chords for me so they were almost common sense! 10/10 loved working with him, I’ve had several music teachers and this guy is definitely my favorite. I’ll always recommend him to anyone beginner or advanced, the advice and knowledge I get alone was priceless! It was therapeutic, can’t wait to get another lesson in!
