I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1977, I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performance. In 1999, I was certified to teach Music K-12 by the state of North Carolina after attending NC Central University. Performing all over the US has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play in North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kansas, Alabama, Ohio, Florida, and Connecticut. For beginning students, I typically start with materials from Mel Bay or Hal Leonard. Once a student has completed this, I begin to offer materials that are more specific to the musical genre that they have stated interest in. As a student progresses, I work to expose them to a variety of techniques with a focus on helping them to develop their own unique voice on their instrument. My hope is that, during this process, students would come to view growing in their musical gifts as an enjoyable and fulfilling process that continues throughout their life. Read More

From 2005-2006 I served on the faculty at Music Academy of North Carolina in Greensboro. After completing my Master's Degree, I joined the faculty at Central Piedmont Community College in 2011, where I have taught several classes including Applied Guitar, Instrumental Repertoire, History of Rock and Roll, Music Appreciation, and Fundamentals of Theory. I'm a passionate instructor who cares deeply about a students education. In 2015, I graduated from West Johnston High School as drum captain in my band program. Since then I've performed in Alchemy Independent, an open class indoor percussion group. I've been with the group since 2017, and I have completed 2 seasons with them. Performing for an audience has been the best experiences of my life, and having the opportunity to play with all of these different organizations have been incredible and inspiring. Read More
