I strongly believe in learning from my students, and that music lessons are about sharing, and exchanging ideas. I also understand that students at the beginning of their musical journey may need more of a guiding hand than others further along. For piano students I use the Neil A. Kjos Piano Library method books. I am flexible and I can tailor my lessons to what the student is interested in learning. Read More

I've been playing music since the age of 4, first studying violin and then playing in a symphony orchestra at the age of 12 (Peter Meremblum-Hollywood Calif.) as well as doing TV work on violin. At the age of 15 I began playing guitar, and then worked my way through college playing gigs, traveled Europe with my own band, and joined the Beach Boys as a bassist and guitarist. I traveled the world, performing and recording with them for over 20 years as well as doing session work in L.A. and performing with local artists. Read More

Practice, of course, is important to learning any skill. But if a love of the instrument is there, practicing shouldn't be too much of a chore. I try to never give my students too much material at once, so as to frustrate them to the point of not wanting to play anymore. On the other hand, it is important to present them with challenges to keep them moving forward. First and foremost is to foster that love of music in them through enthusiasm and example. Read More

Each student is at a different level, and therefore requires different teaching methods. I like to implement the Hanon exercises for scales and warm-ups, also focusing on things like scales and arpeggios. For the guitar, I like to incorporate these concepts with chordal exercises as well, such as playing progressions to let the student's fingers grow accustomed to their forms. I then let the student tell me what his or her focus is, such as theoretical, classical, or popular. Read More

There are so many ways to approach music - via reading music, improvising, composing, playing by ear, and I make sure to include them all over the course of my lessons with students. I encourage students to bring songs that they are interested in learning, and also provide plenty of material to get them on their way to undersanding how to navigate both their instrument, and music. I usually use the Hal Leonard method for guitar students learning to read, and the Faber piano method for paino students. Read More

Student teacher relationships are the most important part of teaching in my opinion. I have the skills to teach my students whatever they may want to learn, but in order for the best results, it is important to me that I build a relationship with my students much like a friendship. My students enjoy spending time with me, and as a result they are more driven and excited to learn from me. Read More

Daniel Reyes Llinás, a Colombian composer, guitarist, and producer, derives inspiration from rhythmic and melodic angularity. He weaves atonal architectures with vibrant lyricism into his music. As a leader, Daniel has released two albums: "Molino," a captivating collage of world and new music, and "En Remolinos," a bold exploration that blurs the boundaries between improvisation and composition. His contributions can be heard on Parias Ensemble's experimental "St. Mark's sessions" and on the eclectic collaborative EP "re:SET vol:1”. Read More
