My teaching style is rooted in my love of music and people. It is a joy to get to know students as we meet regularly for lessons, and an even bigger joy to help them reach their own musical goals! Along the way, we can talk about a practice schedule that can get the student truly on their way to developing as a musician (considering both their musical goals and their other commitments). I began my guitar studies at the age of 12. A contemporary of the Tarrega School, I have taught and performed regularly as both soloist and ensemblist throughout my career. In 2012, I earned my Bachelors Degree in music performance from the University of Nebraska Omaha while studying with classical guitarist Hadley Heavin. Upon graduation, I was awarded scholarship and teaching assistantship to attend the Lamont School of Music where I am currently finalizing my Masters of Music Performance. Read More

From my experience in receiving music lessons when I was younger, I had a difficult time putting forth the time and effort for lessons that were classically run. I had a lot more fun with music when I’d learn at the pace I wanted to learn, and work on pieces I felt most interested in. I certainly don’t want this to be a boring, or draining experience for students, but a time in which students can come to me with interests or questions regarding their goals in music, or even song ideas! For beginning students who are children, I use a variety of methods, including Hal Leonard's Children's Guitar Method, Suzuki methodologies (I am NOT a Suzuki-certified teacher), and materials I've developed over my 25 year teaching career. I emphasize basic technique for the left and right hands, and I make sure they learn the basics of reading music. For older students (middle school-age to adult), I tend to let the student lead. I've been playing bass for 13yrs and guitar for about 9yrs. I started out learning to play bass in the church and took lessons from the Pastor's son for a few months. Eventually became self-taught and learned from bassists that I admired and formed my own style of playing. I went on to teach friends, family, and church folk what I know about bass and music. I have played in a few church bands as well as rock and punk bands in the Southern California area. Read More
