I am a classical guitarist, active teacher and currently accepting students of Suzuki Guitar in the Milwaukee area. I began teaching guitar 10 years ago after receiving my Bachelor's of Music with a Studio Art Minor from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. In 2008, I graduated with a Master's degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Wisconsin Madison while studying under internationally famed performer and recording artist Javier Calderon. He has won numerous awards including the First Prize at the 2012 Classical Minds Guitar Competition in Houston, TX. Ian has performed in masterclasses for acclaimed guitarists such as Lorenzo Michelli, Roland Dyens, Florian Larousse, Gabriel Bianco, Raphaella Smits, Jerome Mouffe, Marcin Dylla, Denis Azabagic and Jorge Caballero. My teaching style is very laid back and relaxed. As much as possible, I like lessons to be student driven. Allowing the student to take a measure of control over what they are learning, gives them a bit more ownership of and investment in their lessons. I have found this to keep students more interested and be more successful in their learning. I then assume the role of a guide whenever possible, rather than an authoritarian figure, so that sudents can discover concepts for themselves vs. having the information given to them.
