I teach reading to all of my younger and beginner students but I like to balance that with material that is a little more enjoyable for them. I like to work with the student to settle on something from their own music collection that is at an appropriate level for them to learn. I can learn guitar parts by ear very quickly so it's easy to jump right in to whatever a student may suggest, but I also have a collection of tunes at different levels that I have had success with in the past. I am a knowledgeable musician who enjoys teaching classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar and musical theory. I graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Guitar Performance. During my time there I performed in the annual guitar ensemble recitals, honors recitals and my own senior recital. Since graduating I have gone on to teach a diverse group of students of all ages. Helping people understand the intricacies of music has been my goal and I'm happy to continue doing so. Read More

I make sure that beginner students understand the instrument and start with the proper technique before they can develop bad habits. I try to pick a song or finger exercises for them each lesson as well as a few exercises where they can develop their reading skills. As a student becomes more comfortable with the instrument that is when we can get into more challenging pieces of music as well as different scales and exercises that will help them with their improvising as well as their overall understanding of music. It is important to be musically ambidextrous: chances are, in your band's rehearsal, your other musicians will share ideas using tabs, not traditional notation. You can be the best note-reader on planet Earth, but if you cannot communicate a language others use, you find yourself stuck. I always incorporate music that my student likes to listen to, and frequently request Spotify or iTunes playlists for reference. I try to adapt pop songs into my curriculum (from their playlists) to teach chord theory and songwriting structure, and encourage students to write their own music. Read More

I've been teaching for over 10 years now and I truly enjoy helping my students get more out of themselves. I started on classical piano at a young age, then played a whole lot of guitar focusing on the likes of Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and more, before joining marching band and jazz band diving deep into drums. In College I started playing bass in bands in Manhattan, and I believe it's this transitions of hopping to many different instruments, starting on the piano, that makes it easy for me to relay the main musical concepts to my students that overlap through all of these instruments. As I said above, my biggest priority is to guide the student on their journey to discovering the music that they would like to play and create. When I was first learning, it was a struggle to unlock my own creativity and become daring enough to play my own music in front of others. Luckily, I had amazing instructors who helped me break out of my shell and find my confidence. Read More
