I design my lessons with the specific student goals in mind.For Beginner students: we will start by exploring rhythm concepts and understanding how to read music. Learning the physics of the guitar and exploring the notes in the first few positions. I love all types of music, but especially jazz. I attended Sacramento City college from 2003-2006 majoring in recording studio engineering but with a minor in jazz performance. I moved to NY in 2006 where i regularly played jazz and rock gigs with up and coming young musicians. I had the opportunity of playing on a jazz album, as well as playing for some studio sessions. I prefer to let the student's personality and general skill level dictate the pace and style in which I teach. The greatest detriment to a student's progress is a lack of interest, so I try to give the students as much say as possible when deciding what piece of music they will be learning. I typically perform an assessment with every individual during the first lesson. Depending on goals, I will recommend curriculum to achieve the desired results. If a classical approach is desired, I use the Alfred's Basic Piano series and the Hal Leonard method for guitar, along with scale and chord theory literature depending on the level of the student. I also teach jazz/pop accompaniment style improv playing so I print music out from various sources. Read More
