I would first establish the level of my student and figure out which direction suits them best to achieve there own personal goals. Someone first starting off , We would first concentrate on finger strength. Excercises that are fun but also help build the neccasary tools. My roots on the piano go back to classical studies from the age of 5. I switched to Hammond Organ in my 20s, receiving mentorship from several legendary players. While attending Goddard College, I wrote my first book on music theory under a protege of Yusef Lateef, and currently have several books available on Amazon. Material can range from Bach, Beethoven, Schumann etc. Contemporary methods usually from an approved song book or possibly a show tune.
