I have worked with many students on different levels. I teach beginners how to hold and tune guitars and then how to play basic melodies. I believe that it is important to jump right in and start playing, that was how I learned. Students at this beginner level will learn how to play melodies on 1 string. My job is to assess the students abilities and lead them down the appropriate paths to achieving their musical goals. My goal is to cultivate musicianship.  Students are encouraged to develop technical skills as a means of creative and emotional expression.  Sight reading and improvisation are taught simultaneously with music theory and composition. Guitar has a bit of a steep learning curve at first, so I work on the basics of forming a good sound and producing clean notes and chords. Once that's established, I try to inspire students by showing just how much music can be made with as little as three chords. I'll help students learn their favorite songs and use those as an avenue for learning more technique.
