My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. The more advanced a student gets, the more I expect them to practice outside of lessons and apply their newly learned technical skills into their music on their own. Read More

Your lessons are about what YOU want! My goal is to keep lessons fun and interesting while helping you achieve your goals. I rarely give technical exercises, instead I like to give students songs that they enjoy which will challenge them and keep them moving forward. Lessons are not regimented, but loosely planned. I always make sure to give my students the opportunity to ask questions about anything, even if it's not related to what we're studying at the moment. Read More

For beginning students I start with the basics of music theory, and demonstrating how this theory is used in rock n' roll, blues, and classical depending on what the student is interested. for intermediate students I aim to build upon their knowledge and help them discover more music, and build a greater understanding of music theory. For advanced students I focus on guiding their studies to a greater level through analysis of historically great pieces, the study of harmony, and how to capture and retain the emotional and mental intrigue of the audience. The first thing I do with all of my students is figure out what kind music they are passionate about. Knowing what my students musical tastes and goals are is extremely important so I can help get them to the place they are envisioning themselves. Once I have a general idea of what my student wants to learn I can tailor specific lessons that fit their ideas specifically. I find that this keeps students the most excited because they have a personal goal to strive for rather than trying to teach them something they are not interested in. Read More
