Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet
For young beginners on wind instruments, I really focus on getting a good sound out of the instrument first. Then, I have them learn simple songs by ear to strengthen their relationship with the instrument. At the same time, I will teach them how to read music if necessary. I like to use the Rubank or the Sound Innovations band method books to start with. For my piano students, I go over posture and hand position first, in addition to the basics of the keyboard and fingerings for scales. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet Drums
I have created my own method of teaching which I have perfected over the years. I create my own exercises and practice materials based on the level and interests of each individual student. I use the software program "Finale" in order to create the musical compositions that I prepare for my students. I always accompany my students on the piano. I am well versed in the various styles of music and am comfortable teaching students how to improvise also. Read More

I began teaching in my undergraduate degree at Kutztown, PA. There I began working with the flute studio from a nearby high school. As I have moved to New Jersey, I have taken on my own private studio. I have students ranging in ages 4-50+. I also teach part time at a college, working with a flute studio in preparation from their end of the semester recital. I enjoy working with my students and getting to know them all. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I start beginners off with the Rubank Elementary Method, which introduces reading, scales, arpeggios, and expressive devices such as dynamics and articulation. I also like students to start with improvisation, composition, and ear training as soon as possible. I encourage them to both work on whatever repertoire interests them and find new types of music they don't know they're interested in yet. More advanced students may progress to some of the more advanced music theory, technical etude books, and scale/arpeggio exercises. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet Mallet Percussion
Setting both long term and short term goals are important to students, and this would certianly be a long-term goal situation. In order for my students to achieve their goals in and out of lesson time, I assign practice and homework assignments for my students to work on for the following lesson. I strongly believe in the importance of communicating with both the students' parents and band director at school. Read More

With over thirty years of musical experience, this third generation composer has worked as a musician, producer, songwriter and sound engineer with many of the greats in the music industry. Starting out at the age of five I learned the piano, following with the flute, saxophone, guitar and bass, winning the classical German "Jugend Musiziert" competition five times as an instrumentalist. Since the age of fifteen I have been executing professional work as a studio musician, orchestra flautist and soloist. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
In teaching young students or beginners, my goal is to show them that flute-playing should be fun and pleasurable above all. When teaching adults I like to help them discover what they think the meaning of the piece is as well as show them ways to portray their thoughts through music. I usually start off a student by teaching the principles of a good posture and the journey of the breath. Read More
