Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student develop a passion for music; a student who practices and looks forward to coming to music lessons is a joy to teach. Each student must progress at his or her own pace; therefore realistic goals must be set at each lesson. Since the age of 11, Anna Kate has held a tremendous passion for classical flute. It was her junior year of high school when she decided to pursue a career in music and started her journey by joining the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra, which toured in France, performing at large concerts in various cities. My teaching style is positive and encouraging. I want each of my students to progress at their own pace while I strive to challenge them in constructive ways to ensure rewarding progress. Everyone learns differently and I work to tailor every aspect of my lessons to meet the specific needs of each student. Building a comfortable and respectful relationship is very important to me. I want to make sure each student feels that I have their best interest in mind and to never be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. Read More

Beyond that, I introduce books according to their musical goals and needs. Some of the books my students have studied out of are the Rubank Intermediate/Advanced books and the Melodious and Progressive Studies edited by Cavally. In addition, I have each student regularly work on solo literature so that they can put their hard work on fundamentals into practice. Read More

I've been playing flute for over 15 years and have taken advanced private lessons myself for over 8 years. In my own journey as a musician, I've realized the importance of regular practice time and setting short and long term goals. In my time teaching younger students, I've learned that locking down the basics of tone and breath control are crucial techniques for becoming a great musician. It's also important to have a good mix of repertoire between classical and modern/pop pieces. Read More

I have studied several approaches to teaching including Orff, Montessori, and Suzuki. I love to seek out new ways to effectively instruct my students. In music learning, I believe that listening is of utmost importance. One must internalize and interact with the music they hear so that they may develop a concept for what they would like to play. From there, students work with me to allow their musical voice to come through their instrument. Read More
