Over the past ten years, I have had the privilege of working with students of all ages, and have been on faculty at the Manhattan School of Music Summer Program, the Larchmont Music Academy, All-Island Music, and an adjunct teaching instructor New York University’s Steinhardt School of Music. I have participated in summer festivals such as the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Banff Festival Orchestra. In May of 2014 I graduated with my Master's degree in flute performance from the Yale School of Music. My musical passion is chamber music, and new music. This focus has led me to found a professional woodwind quintet, Sounding Board, and to pursue my second Master's degree in a specialized contemporary performance program at Manhattan School of Music. You can learn so much about a student in a 30 minute trial lesson! If a new student is not a total beginner, I will ask them to play their favorite song (or one of their favorites if they have trouble choosing just one). After their performance, I ask them what they liked about how they played. Its important for students to always be aware of what they do well. If they arent able to see their strengths on their own then I share with them what I think their strengths are and encourage them to keep that up. Read More

I use a variety of published methods depending on the age of the student and their current level.  I prefer Rubank's method books as they are a little more challenging. They include simplified melodies and examples from classical literature. I may not begin with Rubank for the very young but my goal is to lead them up to that publisher within the first year. I always bring one of my instruments so I can play along and teach by example. it is import the young student learns good posture and breathing technique early on as it will contribute to a more successful beginning.
