I like to make sure the learning environment is stress free and nonthreatening. I believe the psychology of music is dynamic. My goal is to get teacher and student to always be sensitive to the affective attributes that music has on the listener and the performer. Music comes alive by the interpretation of the performer and the student has the power to transmit his or her passion on any particular piece of music. Read More

For beginners, I start with the basics of sound production, and move onto reading music and basic songs shortly after. I try to teach things both visually and by ear, so that the student does not feel that they have to wait to play fun music until they are advanced enough. I hope to work with students in the areas they want to focus on while also providing materials for overall musical development. If a student wants to work on one specific style, be it classical, jazz, or pop oriented music, I will show them the music, materials, and methods required for mastery in that subject. Along with this subject-specific teaching, I will also teach about the history of the flute and all styles that it might be used in. Read More

I am enthusiastic about music and enjoy giving my students the tools they will need to achieve their dreams.  I don't believe I've taught two students in exactly the same way. I like to tailor my teaching for each individual I teach. I do keep in mind that some of my learners are more Visual learners, others more kinesthetic, and others more auditory.  I make use of their strengths to help them develop new musical skills.
