I have 3 years of teaching experience, beginning when I was in college. I highly encourage regular practice because it gets the student comfortable with the fundamentals of their instrument. Eventually, this will allow creative freedom for them as they progress with their studies. My teaching style consists of instilling a passion for music, and creating enthusiasm to learn in a safe, nurturing environment that welcomes participation, practice and music exploration. I believe that making emotional connections with the students helps to foster motivation and personal accomplishments. With over 30 years of experience touring and performing, I enjoy sharing concepts and methods of study that have helped me throughout my career. I graduated in 1993 from Kean University with a Bachelor of Management Science degree and a minor in music. Performing around the world with a variety of artists has given me the opportunity to perform at the JVC Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival to name a few. Patience. I have taught children as young as 5 to adults nearing their 50's and the one universal approach I take with all of them is taking every day as a step forward. I am never aggressive with my students. I believe in pushing them to the next level but never through negativity. My teaching experience began in 2001, during an after school program. I facilitated a drum circle and taught lessons to kids from ages 8 to 15 years old. This lead to several parents of the students requesting private drum lessons. I have been teaching privately in student's homes over the last 15 years.  I find that defining the student’s goals, and centering the lesson around those goals keeps the individual inspired to progress forward.
