Following a long, fun and successful 20+ year career as a pro musician, I became a full-time music teacher. I was the founding music teacher at St. Benedict's Episcopal school in Smyrna, GA where I taught music K-8 for seven years. Then I joined The SAE School in Mableton, GA, where for the past three years I have taught K-12 music, creating a new middle school orchestra and high school Project Based Learning curriculum for music. I believe music instruction should be thrilling and rewarding, and leave the student eager to play more! Maintaining the smile that comes from the joy of expanding skills and creating a unique world of sound is my calling, and I believe every student deserves the chance to experience that. Music can be used to develop social skills and expand self-awareness, as well as two stimulate both right and left brain thinking. Read More

I'm an organized and efficient teacher who loves to find ways to push students to the next level; whether that level is playing professionally or as a hobby. I believe in clear direction and learning how to play the right way the first time. I have been teaching lessons since 2006 when I started as a music major at Asbury Univeristy, a private, liberal arts college outside of Lexington, KY. Because of my love of music I consdier myself a lifelong learner and it is my passion to teach what I've learned to others. Read More

Every one of my students begins with a combination of pad work and time behind the set. The first thing I establish is technique as it is the foundation to moving around the set and becoming comfortable. My aim is to have fun, so the first short term goal is to be able to play the fundamental drum beat! We later add more and build upon it. Students typically can play this beat after just a couple of lessons! Read More
Instruments: Piano Drums Keyboard
My teaching studio is equipped with two drums sets and practice pads to accommodate marching or drum set students. I also have a full PA and two keyboards set up for piano students and accompanying purposes. Each student is given an assignment for the week (or specified time) and will then pass off this lesson assignment (barrier) before receiving a new lesson. Passing off not only includes demonstration of the lesson but also performing with me as I accompany them on the keyboards. Read More

For beginning students, I start with getting comfortable holding the drum sticks and understanding how to properly strike the drumhead. Students will be introduced to basic notes and rhythms that will help them along the way. Beginning students start on drum pads and progressively move towards actual drums. For students that are in band at their school, I can reinforce what is being taught by their band director and give extra guidance. Read More
