That way, I can assign personalized practice routines to get them started. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I have used all of the store brand version of piano books, and find a preference in the ones I was taught in from the 70's which are too many to mention; but depending on the student, I will find a book that is age appropriate and go on from there. I began teaching when I was 17 and have a pretty busy schedule of up to 35 students a week! Many of those students still continue to take lessons after 3 years of instruction and have improved beyond their original goals. I find that each student has different interests (rock, jazz, classical, pop, etc.) which is why I enjoy focusing on what they want to learn.
