I bean teaching after studying drums for four years with Kay Carlson. After years of teaching professionally I developed my own curriculum, based on Kay's lessons what I learned of the Mueller technique from Richard Wilson. My students have gone on to win performance awards, first chair positions other recording phenomenon. Reading drum music is of course my method of communicating with my students. I currently teach music part-time at two Montessori elementary schools in the Southeast Valley which include after-school music classes and private lessons. I am the Worship Pastor at RPFChurch in Tempe, AZ where I play guitar and direct the worship team. I began teaching private lessons about 25 years ago, after I had been hired to work with the drumlines for two different high schools. My first student was in one of the drumlines that I taught, and my second student was referred to me by the band director of another school, after seeing my drumline in competition. Since then, I have taught more students than I can count. Most students have been middle and high school age, but I have had lots of fun teaching students as young as 5 years old, and adults who always wished they had learned to play the drums.I have found that the best way to motivate students is tostart by teaching themto play the kind of music they like most, and then introduce them to other styles later.Lessons are always fun, and catered to the student's needs. After all music is fun and infinitely creative so while implementing these fundamentals we will tackle any project, song or technique the student would like to learn until the next lesson. - For intermediate students we will be playing advanced poly-rhythms together at the start of every lesson then trade fours in different time signatures until we feel warmed up.
