For beginners we'll be focusing heavily on Syncopation and Stick Control, two excellent books. When the student has a grasp on the basics we will work on dynamic control, limb independence, sense of time and ear training. The most important things to see, as a teacher, are students enjoying playing music, reaching their goals, and to see them shine through their successes. I set realistic goals for students.  If there is a feeling of success for the student early in the process, then motivation takes care of itself. I currently teach music part-time at two Montessori elementary schools in the Southeast Valley which include after-school music classes and private lessons. I am the Worship Pastor at RPFChurch in Tempe, AZ where I play guitar and direct the worship team.
