I was a guest lecturer at the Fredrick Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and did an exciting multi-city tour as featured soloist with the Polish National Military Band and Performed for the Polish/U.S. Embassy. While in Poland I also performed concerts, clinics and taught master classes at the Jelania-Gora Philharmonia Complex and Warsaw.                                                                                                                                                                                                                              In the drum & bugle corps field, I marched with and taught the National Champion Chicago Cavaliers, and I've taught, written, or consulted for the National Champion Chicago Royal Airs, the National Champion Argonne Rebels From Great Bend Kansas, the Santa Clara Vanguard, the 2002 Royal Air Reunion corps and many others. It is important to me to get to know each student, and to custom tailor the curriculum for him or her. Method books appropriate to the instrument and level of skill are a large part of my teaching, and I also try to use technology and muti-media to make instruction more interesting and relevant. I use teaching strategies and techniques that help students progress faster with less frustration. I emphasize reading music versus learning by note, and continually look for ways to make lessons interesting, creative, and fun. Read More

I believe that music is something the student should learn to become passionate about. Because of this, my teaching style is more relaxed. I want the students to work on what they are working on (homework from the lessons and songs) because they actually want to improve and become better musicians. The basis for my approach is simply pacing for realistic growth and making sure the student understands that becoming skillful takes time. For example, proving that learning the basics extends into even the most advanced skills in percussion and life in general. I will give continuous gratification in their efforts, while still maintaining a regimented schedule to improvement. I write all my own lesson materials focusing on what the student needs to know to play, understand, and enjoy music to achieve their goals. I have used several method books in the past but find them all limited or focused on styles or technique that is not what the student wants or needs to learn. I can teach from any established method if that is preferred, but instead enjoy challenging the student to understand what music is and how music is played on their chosen instrument, not just to read.
