I'm very much a lover of music, rhythm, and sound. I enjoy sharing that love of music with my students and helping them achieve whatever goal they may have. I try to always remind the student that there is validity to all that we do, and to not be afraid of experimenting and improvising. I want my students to always think as improvisers and composers from the very start of our studies. Read More

As a professional touring and recording artist, I am happy to share my knowledge of playing in multiple musical settings, and the "business" of playing music. My passion is for live performance, and it is essential to help students feel confident while playing for an audience. Our focus will be on developing proper technique, listening carefully and critically to recordings, and building a foundational music vocabulary via reading and writing. Read More

Nothing makes me happier than having the opportunity to share my love of music and guitar. Upon graduating from Skidmore College in 2000, I was accepted to Florida State University to the classical guitar program under the study of Bruce Holzman. I feel my decision to simultaneously work towards two masters degrees speaks clearly for my motivation and passion towards music. While I focused on music theory/composition for my PhD studies at Louisiana State University, I continued performing newly composed works by graduate composers for the instrument. Read More

I encourage my students to learn at their own pace and push them when I see I can. I do not want to deter my students from liking what they do. I try to find the passion for a style of music and bring it out in my students while connecting that style to other styles to show the student that styles are idiosynchratic, but that they can also interchange with other styles. I have been playing drums for over 40 years, it is truly my passion. I have performed in several bands over the years with a main focus on the rock genre. I did play for two seasons with a local jazz band as well. I consider myself to be versatile as far as music styles, however, my main experience is with rock drumming. A few years ago I considered the idea of teaching what I know to others. Read More

Being able to read music well allows you to pursue any type of written music you want to learn. Daily experimentation on your instrument can teach you more about the instrument and yourself than any book or teacher. These are the three main aspects that I focus in my own development (I'm still learning too!). For my piano students, I encourage them to search out opportunities to perform the music they work on every week. Read More

All I want is to know that my students are enjoying music more deeply, and that they gain the self-sufficiency to learn between lessons. I make sure to point out milestones that a student has achieved to encourage that innate human drive for improvement, and always keep looking for what is exciting and inspiring for the student at a given time. I make sure each student I work with knows what elements to include in their practice, how to learn a piece of music from scratch, and how to break things down into manageable, learnable chunks.
