I have taught in a school setting as well, at Rye Country Day School for 8 years, a very rigorous K-12, with a 30 student drum studio, as band and orchestra assistant director and coordinating the entire private music lesson program of 15 teachers, 275 students and 15 practice rooms- a great way to hone my organizational skills and administrative abilities.   Most recently I have had the honor of teaching 40 weekly adult students at Google Inc in Mountain View, CA in my own studio with 2 sets and PA system for play-along opportunities. I offer a personalized approach to learning the drums, and customize the layout of my curriculum to meet each student's specific needs. I use many traditional teaching methods, and incorporate them into lessons, including: Bower System Moeller Stroke Stone Method (Stick Control) Reed Method (Syncopation) Chapin Method In lessons, we focus on technique, fundamentals, and grasping the basic elements of the instructional material. It is up to students to continue practicing diligently and consistently between lessons to advance their skills. Read More

It is great to see the joy on students faces when they realize how good their progress is. I always knowledge their success in overcoming of obstacles they find on their way. It is also a joyful challenge for both, student and me, to find the way through greater difficulties when they arise. Then the success is even sweeter. Read More

I started studying and playing drum set when I was 12, helped form and perform with a swing dance band as a teenager, and went on to study as an adult with Charlie Tappan, who worked with the legendary drum teacher Henry Adler. Through the course of my career I have performed in just about every style of music. I have played in parades and processions, local childrens' theatre and school musicals, club dates, concerts, recording, and dances. Read More

I've actually written and produced my own music theory book that was in all Borders stores before they closed down. I've learned a few methods and I try to incorporate them all unless the student or parents wants something specific. My method is a method where I can teach 1 thing countless ways. I love my students to learn theory because it is a very important backbone to music. Some people can play instruments without ever really kwoing what they are playing or understand the theory behind it, and I think it holds them back from truely being creative and understanding of music.    With my methods students will be able to play from any genre, any book, and hopefully will be able to create their own music. For beginning students I begin by talking to them about music and what songs they like. We start clapping along and picking out what the drums are doing and eventually begin playing along. A wonderfully laid out book for beginners that are interested in pop music is "The Funky Primer." I also like to teach the reading of rhythms out of a book by Ted Reed called "Syncopation for the Modern Drummer." This is a great book that you can work out of for many many years to come. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
