I am a recent graduate of Berklee College of music in Boston with 10 years of teaching experience, and 22 years playing experience. I have won multiple drum competitions and have experience performing in all styles from jazz (Phil Woods) to folk (Jay Ungar and Molly Mason). My teaching style is fairly relaxed. The pace depends on the students' goals and skill level. Most importantly, I want the student to have fun! I like to encourage students to become proficient in reading, but I only will use books that suit the students needs and desires. As such, there is no one book or program that I depend on. Many self taught drummers learn bad habits which become very difficult to break as they get older. We will break these habits if needed. For the beginner, we will spend the first two or three lessons working on proper grip and motion. Once that is mastered, we will use the Maroni book and use the first page of Stick Control.
