I am originally from Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama in 2008 with a Bachelors degree in Clarinet Performance. Then I moved to Philadelphia to continue my education. I graduated from Temple University with a Masters degree in Clarinet Performance. As a teacher, I am very motivated and persistent. My teaching method starts with whatever the school is using. I don't want to contradict their music teacher. If they don't have a teacher at school then I will recommend a method book depending on their level. I don't believe in teaching beginners that there are easy scales and hard scales. My very first clarinet teaching experience was when I was in college. I taught a small class of music majors who were required to earn a woodwind proficiency. Since they were all music majors, there was no need to teach theory - just fingering, embouchure and technique. I usually start my beginning piano students who are children, in Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Lesson Book 1A. After a few months, I begin adding solo repertoire that is appropriate for age and ability. For middle school age students and adults, I start with Alfred's Basic Piano, Adult, Level 1. I have experience teaching all ages and skill levels including very young first timers up to experienced adults. In addition to private lessons, I have taught at the Apprentices in Jazz Workshop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as a woodwind instructor, improvisation teacher, as well as big band director.
