I am a classically trained saxophonist with over five years of teaching experience. I have worked with students ages 10 through 40, in many different settings. I recently finished my student teaching placement, where I taught lessons on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. I have taught every semester I have been in college thanks to being a part of the Musicianship and Advancing Pedagogy--MAP--Program in the College of Musical Arts. I taught for the Middle School and High School Band Academy Programs. There, I taught sectional rehearsal for anywhere between 2-14 students for an hour. One of things I that I find discouraging is when teachers stick with one method. Every student is different! As a result, my method of teaching very much depends on the student. If I have a student who is struggling with fundamentals, then we will focus on fundamentals. If I have a student who is struggling with articulations, then we will focus on articulations in lessons. There really is no limit to which methods work for people. Every person learns their own way, and it is true that a variety of methods work for an individuals learning process.
