I am an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher who likes succeeding with students and sharing my passion of music. In 2014, I graduated from the University of Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Saxophone Performance. Traveling all around the midwest has been one of the better experiences of my career as a musician, and I have had the chance to play both at Summerfest, as well as touring the United States in numerous shows as a musician with the european wind ensemble Blaskapelle Milwaukee, and my own jazz trio. I began teaching the clarinet in 2016 at Highland Park High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. 7 of my 8 students in 2016 placed in the TMEA Region Band, and another 2 went on to the 5A TMEA All-State Symphonic Band. In 2017, I had another student place in the 5A TMEA All-State Symphonic Band. I took up an additional job teaching at William B Travis TAG Academy in Dallas, where I taught beginners and 7th graders. Ben holds a BM in Music Education (PreK-12 Instrumental) from Longwood University and an MM in Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. While he majored in clarinet and performs primarily on bass outside of the concert band world, Ben is a multi-instrumentalist, performing with numerous ensembles on a number of different instruments. It is a great joy to see students learn, grow, and have fun! I begin by asking the student of their goals, and eventually help them develop new goals as they explore and find their unique gifts. Students are provided with a unique, well-rounded program tailored for them, including the foundational resources and understanding needed to fly with other musicians. While I try to follow a mostly K12 standard structure to my private lessons at the end of the day I will be tailoring my instruction to my students wants and needs. I like to set attainable weekly goals with my students in regards to technique and style that will be implemented via exercises, scales and into our repertoire. I'm a firm believer in taking a student where they are and building off of their interests. Finding what a student is interested in and using that as a starting point is a part of my teaching approach. At the same time, there are some things that are critical to be taught at every level that should be incorporated on some level so there's a holistic and balanced education.
