My teaching style will vary from student to student based on his/her and the parents goals. Deep understanding of concepts will be emphasized before moving on to the next concept. When teaching younger students, I prioritize developing a passion for music through engaging repertoire and positive encouragement, while instilling proper technique and organized practice with weekly progressive assignments. I also establish practice expectations and share progress with parents. In every lesson I demonstrate concepts by performing various woodwinds and piano, and by singing. Advanced students work towards external goals established in consultation with both students and parents like school concerts, honor band/orchestra auditions, or college applications, encouraging students to grow their musical community outside of the lesson studio. I am a passionate and committed music instructor and performer. I have recently completed my second master's degree at the Royal College of Music where I learnt from some of the greatest musicians of our time (i.e. Gareth Davies and Susan Milan) and perform with fantastic orchestras like the London Symphony Orchestra. As an avid doubler, one who plays multiple instruments usually within the same instrumental family, I perform regularly on the flute, clarinet and saxophone, especially in musical theatre pit orchestras. For beginning students, I typically start with the basic fundamentals of the instrument, focussing on right posture, grip and sound. For intermediate students there is more freedom. Whenever I have a good feeling with the student's preference, I'll come up with a system so we can start working on new material. Read More
